Garbolino Stratford Classic – Sunday 12th November 2023

This year’s Stratford Classic was won by Pete Morris with an incredible 26 bream for 73lb from Lucy’s mill peg 3. Second was Jon Arthur with 21-8 from peg 20 on the Rec, third was Tony Marshall with 21lb from peg 6 again on the Rec, fourth was Bob Pinner with 16-14 from peg 2 at the Lido and fifth in the frame was Rob Shreeves with 16-4 from peg 11 on the Rec. Well done to all the section winners and all who took part on a high and coloured river which didn’t make things easy for most. Thanks to Anthony Simmons and Andy Bruce who have helped me to make this a success again this year. Thanks to Darren Cox and Garbolino for their support and W H Lane for the trophy and we will start work soon for next year.

Grand Union Canal – Rowington – Colin Arkless

Hi Anthony, been a while, hope you are well. Thought I would share my day on the canal at Rowington

You know when you have one of those days, when everything comes together, you get everything right , from swim selection , rigs bait and feeding . Today was one of those days. The plan was to fish two lines at 13m , one fed with a Jaffa of silver x roach black ( the best groundbait ).

One negative with a nugget and a sprinkling of pinkie . Then a top 3 line, which just put me off the shelf and a top 2 worm line. After feeding the two 13m lines and leaving them to settle , it was straight onto the top 3, where all I could muster were 3 small perch. After an hour went into the positive 13m line, it took about 15min for the float to slowly sink , I always wait a couple of seconds, before gently lifting the rig. A nice 10oz skimmer. I stayed on this line with the intention of topping up when bites began to tail off.

Managed 5 more skimmers and a nice Roach , before a knob in a boat decided to ram the far bank then reverse full power over my swim 😢 This killed the line, the other 13m line didn’t produce a bite. Time for chopped worm and pinkie a foot from the bank. It did not take long before I had my first plump perch, this was followed by 4 or 5 more before that began to fade. In the meantime I had potted some loose groundbait over the original line. With an hour to go decided to ping a few every put in , this resulted in 10 Roach.

A nice end to a great day. Managed 12lb 12 oz

Kind regards, Colin

It may be winter outside but no one seems to have told the carp at Napton. Here is Craig with a really superb specimen.
