Cormorants!

Just in case we needed reminding how damaging Cormorants can be, here’s one that came down on a water (not LAA) for just three minutes before being shot. So that’s one fish per minute for (say) an hour on the water with his three friends (x3) most days of the week (x5) for a year (x52). That’s a lot of fish!

More Fish!

There have been work parties on most of our waters, making them more accessible and comfortable for members. These groups are made up of ordinary members like you who volunteer to make fisheries better. You can volunteer too. Contact Anthony.

Of course, winter is the time for stocking new fish to refresh our waters for spring. Jubilee Pools, Snitterfield Reservoir, Napton Pond, College Pool and Ryton Pool have all had new stocks of various species.

Wasperton Work Party

Hi Anthony,

On Sunday morning the River Work Party unblocked the track at Wasperton of this weighty tree. Not sure if it was Dudley or Eunice that was to blame.

Wasperton Barbel

Hi Anthony,

Thought you might like to hear the following. Popped down to the river at Wasperton on the 13th February to see if I could get a roach or two, or maybe even a bream. The weather conditions were difficult with a howling gale bouncing the tip around and making spotting bites difficult. As it happens, I only had one bite all day and it was this barbel at 11lbs 1oz. Very fortunate on double maggot, 14s hook and 3lbs hooklength but, luckily, she didn’t give that lightning first run so it was more a dogged battle of wills especially when it came to landing it in my ordinary-sized landing net.

It’s, by far, my personal best and my only barbel from the Avon ever.

Regards

Alex Deane

Jubilee Opens

Hi Anthony had a great session today at Jubilee Horsehoe lake on the feeders.

The tench and bream were well up for a feed, I started on 2 rods but took one in due to double hook ups, one rod was enough to manage😂

In just over 4 hrs I landed 10 bream and 9 tench. Bream averaged 2.5lb a couple weighed at 3.5lb, tench averaged 3lb, though one was just on 4lb. I was very happy, I know it normally fishes well after opening, today a lot of action, reckon around 50lb all in. A couple photos attached of some of the fish.

I noted the great condition of the fishery and new pegs, and its a big thankyou to the work groups they do a great job.

Thanks again for a brilliant fishery🎣🎣👌👌👌
